Strip is our in-house program for the non-linear analysis of piled strip footings using a load-transfer approach. Strip was initially developed by Dr Francesco Basile at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Catania with the assistance of Professors Michele Maugeri and Ernesto Motta.

In many cases, a piled strip footing is resting on fill or soft ground from which little benefit can be obtained, and thus the footing contribution is ignored. If however the footing is resting on relatively stiff soil, then a proportion of the applied load will be taken by the footing. Using Strip, the design of the pile-footing system can be optimized on the basis of the load distribution between the footing and the piles.  Strip adopts a non-linear soil model for both the footing and the piles based on Kondner-type hyperbolic functions.
